All fall down
I know it officially started a week or so ago. Autumn.
But I also know I have never -- ever! -- learned to color within the lines.
(I was actually sent home from school with a note once, telling my parents I HAD TO LEARN to color inside the lines.)
Ha Ha. I never claimed to possess artistic ability (although I am burdened with the artistic temperament).
What I do have are a few good lenses.
But anyway, my point (I will thank you not to snicker) is that for me, Autumn begins on October First.
And lasts until the last cranberry has been consumed on Thanksgiving Day.
And then it is Christmastime.
October is my favorite month. The cooling, the misting, the coloring, the poignancy ... I savor it like no other thirty- or thirty-one day period of time on the calendar.
I know I am not alone in this sentiment.
So on this beautiful First of October in The Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twelve I justed wanted to say, let's get down with fall, y'all.
That is all!
Oh ... except for this, my favorite autumn poem by my all-time favorite poet.
=0=0=0=
These are the days when Birds come back --
A very few -- a Bird or two --
To take a backward look.
These are the days when skies resume
The old -- old sophistries of June --
A blue and gold mistake.
Oh fraud that cannot cheat the Bee --
Almost thy implausibility
Induces my belief.
Till ranks of seeds their witness bear --
And softly thro' the altered air
Hurries a timid leaf.
Oh Sacrament of summer days,
Oh last Communion in the Haze --
Permit a child to join.
Thy sacred emblems to partake --
Thy consecrated bread to take
And thine immortal wine!

I love Autumn too! The sights, the smells, the cider and apples..., However, I hate what comes after it. :)
Love Emily's poem, and so glad it's your favorite. For me Oct 1st. is Fall as well. I won't say it's my most favorite time of the year, but it's one of four.
Autumn you say.....my calendar tells me that it is OFFICIALLY Autumn here in the sunshine state..........Buuuut, I yearn for an actual Autumn. I did experience it last November, and it was such a wonderful time. Love the poem by sweet Emily! Happy October 1st my friend"............G.
Savor! That's the word that I couldn't think of when I was writing up my October post! It is truly a month to savor. It is one of my favorites and I have been looking forward to finally being free of complications, commitments, and excessive knee pain this October. I haven't had a chance to savor this special month since 2007! It's long overdue...
I love Miss Emily!
It's Pretty in here Girlie...love the color and the photos!

I loved autumn in the Midwest for the colors, the cool down, and FOOTBALL. Same goes for life in the West along the Rockies: I love autumn for the colors, the cool down, and FOOTBALL ;-)
