SkyWatch Friday: Simmering Summerville
On Wednesday this week I hied my bad self down to Summerville -- basically North Charleston -- on a court reporting assignment.
It was mucho caliente but -- for you! -- I took a stroll (and many pictures) after the depositions concluded.
The sky was pretty amazing all day, as you will see from these photos.
Summerville has a charming main street, many boutiques, lots of vintage architecture, a glut of trees and flowers, and so much humidity it ought to be illegal.
This was my view from the conference room ... I'm no stripe of a horticulturist but I suspect the trees are dead. What say you?
You know how much I love post offices. Here's Summerville's old one.
And an old town hall with lots of Southern character.
This one's, like, self-explanatory.
With a cupola and weathervane!
But I like this weathervane better! It's all horsey.
Like I mentioned, the sky was showing off.
Seeming happy to serve as a backdrop for all sorts of interesting things.
Some dearer to our hearts than others.
Some sweetly symbolic.
Some just sweet.
This mature crape myrtle dripping with Spanish moss was an unexpected sight.
Although there's nothing unusual about crape myrtles flinging their fluffy branches toward heaven with abandon ... especially in August.
And then there were the architectural details which I cannot resist. Can you? Can you really?
And those small-town scenes that just scream America!
Yep, we're in high cotton here and no mistake.
Under the most beautiful skies in the world.
Watch the sky at every opportunity! There's lots of good stuff going on up there.
~ Happy Friday ~

That was some stroll!
I have a crape myrtle. They were all the rage here a few years ago and I bought right into it. It doesn't bloom until late summer into fall though, and I doubt it will ever get as big as the ones down your way. I do love that colour when everything else is winding down.
I am always amazed by the detail that artisans put into buildings. I think to myself, it's just a building, why do they bother? But I'm glad they do!
Great collection of sky shots. Thanks for your visit to my blog.
Some great skies. and I like the Ronald Regan quote on the side!
What a wonderful town. Thank you for taking the walk with your camera. Like your angles and cropping.
Lovely collection of photos capturing the magic of the skyline. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
I've been in Summerville! Andy graduated from Basic Training at Fort Jackson, so when we went down, we stayed in Charleston for a few days, and we made a stop in Summerville. It's a great town. I love the architectural details too!
Wow, that is some photo set. Excellent work.
Beautiful shots of the place.
Beautiful skies and architecture! Is you neck sore today from looking up so muh, LOL?
what a lovely day you had.
Ah, a soul mate: someone else who spends her walks always looking up, up at the rooftops!
Fantastic sequence. I love the beautiful sky and clouds and also the tour of the interesting buildings which looks great against the sky. The humidity in NC where I live should be illegal too.
That's a lovely trip around the skies of Charleston. Thanks for sharing this lovely post Jennifer and have a great weekend.
An English Girl Rambles
No mistaking that's America - looks like an old film set
My word, I never saw so many beautiful sky shots in one post. Those would last me a year. You truly did amazing work on all of them.
Wow! Great pictures, Mom! I enjoyed them.
Such great pictures. I especially like the one of the sky with the church/cross. Lovely.
Thanks for the visit! I do like those architectural details, many times they are more interesting than the building as a whole!
Great series of shots!
