p.s.
One more thing.
If I hear or read again that by having her chests lopped off Angelina Jolie has somehow miraculously and singlehandedly "empowered women," I will simultaneously scream and spit up.
I felt it prudent to point that out.
And that is all for now.

It's been shoved down my throat far too many times in the last few days and I don't find myself any more empowered than I was last week.
PS - I'm afraid you're going to hear about it again, and more than once because she is a liberal media darling...
I have a sore throat so I cannot scream, but I can change the channel. And I do. Too many women in my life have suffered and some have died from Cancer, and they were way braver. Thanks for your thoughts.
I don't believe anyone is saying she has singlehandedly "empowered women.
Your friend Irene says "Too many women in my life have suffered and some have died from Cancer, and they were way braver."
Yes, too many women have suffered and died from cancer, they were brave as are their families.
However, if they had known they had an 80% plus chance of getting cancer, don't you think they might have chosen the same option that Jolie did? It is simply a matter of survival. I'm betting their husbands and children might have wanted that option too.
Forget about the messenger, Jolie, and concentrate on the option to live.
Debbie, are you saying that you believe every woman in the world should submit to the BRCA1 test? And that, finding themselves "positive," should then submit to a double mastectomy or worry about dying of breast cancer? That sounds like a radical idea. I've done some reading this week that strongly suggests otherwise. Many doctors are alarmed at Ms. Jolie's revelations. However, that's beside my point. The only person whose healthcare decisions are my business, are my own.
My only issue is that Angelina Jolie, an immoral, oddball, and perniciously liberal celebrity, be made out as wonderwoman, superwoman, superhuman, brave, heroic, courageous ... just because she underwent elective surgeries. And YES it has been stated ad nauseam, ad infinitum that she has EMPOWERED women everywhere by doing this. And that's hogwash. They have no more power over their own healthcare decisions now, than they did last Saturday.
Jenny: If your "only issue is that Angelina Jolie, an immoral, oddball, and perniciously liberal celebrity, be made out as wonderwoman, superwoman, superhuman, brave, heroic, courageous ... just because she underwent elective surgeries." We are in agreement.
Ok ladies...here's the scoop on what this is REALLY all about...Ready?
In the first part of June...you heard about this, right? Oh sure you did! Our Wonderful main stream media is ALL over the story...anyway, I digress... The Supreme Court is going to hear the Genome Patent case....(copy and paste this article!)
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=supreme-court-set-to-hear-arguments-on-whether-human-genes-can-be-patented
IF they rule FOR it?? We are ALL in serious trouble! Angelina's test should Only have cost about $100. The REASON for the $3000-4000 price tag? Royalties....yes, you read that right. There have been 4000 different genes in the human body that have been "claimed" by large corporations. Realize, that there are Thousands more that have Not yet been mapped!
Do you remember the big "flap" over the downloaded music feeds by the average joe-blow and how there are huge fines for downloading that music if the music companies find out you've got a pirated copy of one of their songs? NO Difference with the gene patents! Once a company "owns" a particular gene...it's Theirs! NO LONGER does it belong to You! SO...can you imagine the "fine" you'd have to pay if little wifey gets pregnant? Hummmm? That will be considered replication....did you hear me? Replication...huge fines....
And don't think it stops with just the human genome system...look around you....ALL GENETIC MATERIAL.
SO....if that doesn't make your butt pucker up, I don't know what will.....
NO ONE has been talking about this! This is a TRILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS! Huge potential for profits to be made!
I know that on my blog I may come across as a country bumpkin at times....but believe me when I say to you, we are all in deep doo-doo. I am a simplistic person writing a simplistic blog, just trying to journal her life for her family in a small way....I am just sick at heart at what we are facing....and our children and grandchildren....my God, what will they have to endure?
Well, now that I've whetted your appetites and your quest for knowledge....Hahaaa....if you Tweet, copy the link and start screaming about it....There's also this:

This is why I'm Not a raving lunatic by now.....It grounds me.
hughugs
Debbie, if I wrote it, it's what I meant. There's no "if" about it. And I did write it. And I'm glad we're in agreement but if we weren't, that would be okay too. It's my blog and my opinion; nothing more, nothing less.
Donna ... that's truly scary; I don't even know what to say except, nothing surprises me anymore. I am sick at the thought of what my children and grandchildren face too. Certainly a society that champions the likes of Angelina Jolie just because she has an operation, cannot be trusted. At any rate, only God merits our trust and our worship.
