Otter Serenity
I love otters. Flipperglorious little sausages!
Like me, the otter is kin to the weasel. Otters are not only cute; they are playful and talkative and romantic! They make their homes in burrows but are excellent swimmers, and clearly they understand the importance of being comfortable and relaxed.
You can't go wrong with that combination.
If TG and I were otters, the following is undoubtedly how we would entertain ourselves all day. I'd be the smaller one ... the one that can't seem to wake up and is too lazy to even wave its tail.
Except I'd have to master floating on my back in water, which for some reason I've never heretofore been able to do. Happily, unless the Lord calls me home, I'll have time to work on that again this summer.
Don't forget to spring forward, y'all! It's about to be that otter time of year.

That is the cutest video!
I LOVE these little guys! My friend told me that that is the way she and her husband sleep by holding hands.=)
Whoo. I just caught up on a month's worth of blog posts. I even read "Fiercer Delight And Fiercer Discontent" in its entirety. I have decided I need to go read your archives (i.e. everything you wrote BEFORE I found your blog [or did you find MY blog?] a year ago).
@ Mari ... I know! I can't watch it enough times!
@ Cheryl ... awww, that's precious! Last night when TG and I were falling asleep, he said "Let's hold flippers like the otters do ..."
@ Kev ... Mercy ... do you have that much time? LOL! I'll look the otter way while you beat a path through that wilderness! And I think it was I who found your blog!
Okay, yeah...super cute. I love the way the one reaches out real far at the end to get the other one's paw..I guess they have paws. Anway, totally awesome. Flipperglorious little sausages. LOL Totally fits there!
@ Audrey ... oh, I know! Totally!~
Oh, those are sea otters, aren't they? I've seen this vid before, and I think the smaller one is a cub, and the mother is taking care not to 'lose' him (even though they are clearly in a pool and not out on the ocean), which is so sweet!
Gah!!! I kept checking back and didn't see my comment, then I found where I'd copied it and parked it, and I remembered your page wouldn't accept it and kept telling me to try again! I clearly forgot to re-post it! So here it is, a bit late. Sorry about that!
I love otters too. In fact the first book that I otterly fell in love with (forgive me, I can't help it) was 'The Otter Book' by Phyllis Kelway. I was about 7 or 8, and I was heartbroken to have to give it back to the library - and then to hear that they had sent it to be burned because it was past it's useful life!! This was in the old days when they didn't sell worn out books to the public, and though my father tried to buy it for me, they wouldn't sell. Being so young, I couldn't remember who wrote it, and it took me until about two years ago to find it. I do now have a copy on my shelf, and yes, it's as good as I remember it!
Jay, I otterly understand! And I'm so glad you found a copy of the book you loved as a kid! I was going to look for one for you, if you hadn't said that! That's how I feel about The Red Balloon but sadly, I do not own a copy! But I haven't really looked.
Have you seen the film Ring of Bright Water?
Whoever those otters are, it makes me laugh and cry at the same time when the one reaches for the other's flipper!
I'm so sorry you had trouble posting your comment! I don't know why these things happen.
If you mean the movie "The Red Balloon" you can get it for $10 from Amazon. I didn't see mention of any book tho. I like otters too. And my hubby and I hold hands all the time. Walking, sitting next to each other, going to sleep... it's really comforting.
@ Tracie ... awww! That conjures a sweet mental picture!
I like the movie The Red Balloon, but I wish I had a copy of the book just like the one my sister and I owned as children! Its pages had a certain musty scent that I told myself was the smell of Paris!
Ok, I put the red balloon book in the search bar, and they sell it at Amazon too. this is the page i found
http://www.amazon.com/Red-Balloon-Albert-Lamorisse/dp/0385003439
it was around $11 or 12 dollars.
Tracie, you know what? Right after we talked about that earlier, I looked the book up on Amazon (because you said you'd found the movie there) and put a link to the book in my sidebar! Thanks for mentioning that! I'm not sure I'll order it right now, but someday soon I'd like to get a copy to share with my granddaughters! I think they'd like it.
