Parting shots
The last set of wheels belonging to visiting family members pulled out of my driveway this morning.
See, we had yet ANOTHER Christmas on New Year's Eve.
Same cast of characters as our first Christmas, plus Stephanie and Joel with their girls, plus Mother and Henry.
This was the last Christmas gathering for 2010.
We have now officially run out of time.
Again we assembled in the front room, around the tree, for presents.
From my mother I received a sparkly silver lightweight sweater and a blank-paged note-and-random-thought-jotting book the sort of which I always keep on my person.
The sweater is rather stunning and looks exceptional with my silver jewelry. I wore it to church twice yesterday, plus out to lunch.
Stephanie got a new blazer. Eggplant-colored velvet. Tres elegant!
For Andrew there was, among other things, a retro lid.
Erica got pj's, stationery, and a keychain.
I gave each of my kids a framed enlargement of my original photography. Since Audrey lives in Knoxville, hers was an abstract view of the building that houses the iconic Tennessee Theater.
The granddaughters posed by the tree early in the day. Clearly Allissa was fresh from the bath! Is there anything cuter than little girls in matching frocks with polka-dot bows adorning the hip area?
While Melanie was busy helping distribute presents, Allissa chilled with Aunt Audrey and waited for all good things to come her way.
When the gift finally came, it was an instantly-adored tea set from Grand-Mamaw (my mother).
Serving began promptly.
Then we had a real meal!
Christmas 2010, gone forever, to live only in memory.
It was a happy time, if not without its bittersweet moments.
~ Happy 2011, everyone! ~

Everyone looks beautiful! Glad you had such a fun time. The photography is a wonderful gift!
Beautiful family and beautiful pictures. The eggplant blazer was a big hit I'm sure, she will get lots of wear out of that.
(I sent you an email, but you must not have received it. I had a question about your pictures of cemeteries and the sepia(?) tone of the pictures. I'm guessing your camera has a setting for that or did you do it with a photo program? Hubby's new camera has a setting for a similar tone, but my old Canon Rebel EOS 300 does not have such a neat setting).
Have a great day.
@Mari ... it certainly is! The best ever gift for me.
@Debbie ... I didn't get your email and I'm so sorry! I've looked for it and it's just not there. The sepia tone, like my antique and boost-color and blur-edge and black/white effect, is an editing choice on iPhoto. It came with my iMac! I think my Nikon point-and-shoot lets you choose black-and-white when actually shooting, but no other effect. I'm sure your husband will be able to find a program that will let him easily re-tone his photos! And he'll have fun doing it!
Love the photos!!! You're so good at taking pictures!
Thank you for your sweet comment about Tylar... It's been a "day"....

Aaawww, it looks so cozy and loving at your home! The grands are just adorable in their matching outfits. Wrap it all up in your mind and tuck it under "Christmas memories"!
I wanted to let you know that I got the sweetest thank you note from Erica! I was so surprised and giggled when I read it. The apple didn't fall far from the tree with her! She even thanked me for being a friend for you! I tell you, I had to go looking for a tissue box again, LOL. It was such a thoughtful gesture.
My sweet Jenny, I'm looking at your tree, and had I not been such a ditz, I'd have sent you one of my angels for your tree. May I still do that, or will it disrupt your packing up of Christmas routine? I'm not sure I'll be making anymore so I'd like these to go to special friends.
Just me again, love your framed photo, what a wonderful gift for your children. Love those matching dresses too.
Me yet again, Thank you for your offer of Quentin's but I do have a copy. It is a comfort read though isn't it.
@Donna ... What Tylar's doing is so important. I wish I could tell him in person how proud of him I am.
@Donna M. ... Erica has been trying to get that letter sent out to you for a while! She finally asked me for a stamp. She can be such an airhead but we love her for it! You'll find this funny: in addition to keeping our purse-pack tissues in the little cloth holders you made and gave us, we all keep our iPod touches in them! They fit perfectly in the slot meant for used tissues! So they're doing double duty and we're all enjoying them very much indeed!
@Irene ... girl, any time you want to send me a book or an angel, have at it. You sure won't disrupt anything. Also I am intent on finding a book on my shelves that you haven't got, that I could send to you for 2011 reading! I'll get a list of titles to you soon! *kiss*
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, little girls in matching dresses! Many things "say-Christmas." But none, better than this. :-)
Gentle January hugs...
Thanks for the reply on the camera settings. Hubby has all those options on his new Canon Rebel, I was hoping I had them on my old Rebel, but not so. I have a good picture program I think I can get similar results with it. They will never be as great as yours though!
Hey, I didn't know that an itouch would fit in the tissue holders!!! I just tried mine and it was too tight because it has this awful clippy thing on the back of the case it is in. I plan to make up a bunch more tissue holders later on this month. I need to do a little tutorial on them too! Ah, but time keeps slipping away on me!!!
